SUMMER AT “THE GROOVE”

PLEASE CHOOSE ONE MORNING SPECIALTY CAMP PER WEEK Campers will also be able to participate in daily electives/camper’s choice. Activities (like in our after-school program) such as: Archery, Basketball, Tetherball, Fort Building, Arts and Crafts with Recycled Materials, Gardening, and more! (We encourage campers to stick with their chosen activity/specialty camp, but will allow changes if a particular specialty camp is not a good fit for their individual needs). SUPER SPACE ADVENTURERS

It’s the ultimate experience for those explorers who want to have fun on a galactic scale! Let’s explore space, build rockets, and encounter aliens! Build your own rocket, learn about our amazing solar system, and create your own inter-galactic battle! (Check out our 2010 Spring Camp pictures to see how much fun space camp is.)

Take a look at the ancient Romans and learn to make your own stained glass and mosaic collage. Mosaic is the art of creating

images with a variety of small colored pieces. It can be decorative or have cultural and spiritual significance. Make your own creative mosaic and tell us about it!

Get ready for summer by having a fun week of basketball! We’ll cover ball handling, dribbling, passing, shooting, teamwork, and defensive playing through the joy of the game. Agility training and fast paced drills will help players improve their game while they have fun with our awesome coaches. This course is recommended for campers 7 and above although younger campers with a strong interest in sports may enroll and play with the ”big guys”. Sports training to be held at nearby park.

It’s time to explore our artistic side! Give your budding artist the opportunity of applying various art mediums and concepts to create their own one-of-a-kind masterpieces. Through a variety of artistic mediums, such as watercolor, charcoal, pastel and diverse printmaking techniques, we will learn perspective, design images, and print your ideas! Creativity and talent will be developed through fun exercises that will inspire and give a deeper appreciation for the things we see. It’s not your usual color wheel and potato stamp class!

4REPTILE REVOLUTION!

Slither & crawl into the exciting world of reptiles. Learn about snakes, lizards, monitors and amphibians. Discover what they eat, where they live, and a whole bunch of other cool reptile facts. Plus, you will have a chance to meet and pet “Wario” the Ball Python and “Mika” the Bearded Dragon!

SKATEBOARDING

Who’s ready to Shred!? Join us for skate camp and you can learn or improve your skills on a half-pipe, launch ramps, rails, and flatland tricks. (plus you can design and paint your own skateboard so you can go skate with a new and cool one of a kind ride!)

Come Explore the wonderful world of Legos and learn about geometry too!  In this camp, campers will build their own creations and make their own claymation creation to show off their creative building and movie making skills.  Get ready for some fun!

GIRLS GROOVE

Throw on your cutest sari (or make one here) because Bollywood is coming to town! Campers will explore this fun Indian Hip-Hop dance and

make girly and glitzy outfits to match. Plus, learn how to design your very own henna tattoos! We will also groove our way through the world learning Yoga, Salsa, and Flamenco.

Batters up! It’s summer and it’s time to hone in on your baseball skills. Our coaches will be focusing on offensive and defensive instruction (e.g. base running and pitching). Crucial hitting, pitching, and fielding skills will to get you ready for a great fall season. We’ll put the skills learned into action daily with a variety of different activities! Camp will provide helmets, catching gear, bats and balls. Campers should bring gloves, hat, and water bottle (bat is optional).

Put your creative caps on! Learn about the bright minds that invented the everyday things you love to use; lights, t.v., telephone, etc. Plus make your own invention and create your own commercial!

“Lights! Camera! Action!” Are you ready to play the part of the hero or do you prefer to laugh as the villain? This is a terrific opportunity for you to play games, get involved and learn what it’s like to be an actor! Remember, the director may call the shots but you create the character!


global-groove-winter-camp-017GIRLS GROOVE (week 2) This week get ready for Flamenco Fever! Campers will explore the exciting world of Flamenco dance and rhythm and make their very own shawls (Picos) and Fans (Abanicos) that they can take home and use to make your living room into its very own Tablao (flamenco performance space). No dance experience is necessary, just a great attitude and a strong interest in dance. We will incorporate other dance styles in our moving exploration. Please bring a leotard and small heeled shoes so we can really groove. Ole! The final performance will be filmed and each girl will go home with a Flamenco glamor shot in full Spanish attire…we do Flamenco birthday parties too!

Take the best of what comic book legends have to offer and create your own superhero! In each of us there is a hero, a person dedicated to making the world a better place. By taking a closer look at our (real and fictional!) heroes, we are able to recognize the traits that can unleash the hero we are holding deep within. We might not be able to teach you to fly or be invincible but you will leave POWERFUL and ready to HELP THE WORLD! Yes, velcro and super costume making will of course be explored.

“Honk! Honk! Whistle! Bam! Boom!” It’s time to get silly and creative with all of your new Groovy Clown-mates as you make your own clown costume, come up with your unique and special clown-name, and earn your nose. We will explore fun and clever ways to make your audience laugh hysterically as you dazzle them with your bright eyes and extra large honking nose! Bring yourself as you are and find your inner clown!

Explore the world of plants! Find out what makes a plant a plant, how types differ and why. Experiment with growing your own plants and learn horticultural skills to garden at home! Learn the amazing adaptations that allow plants to survive in habitats from sea levels to the tops of mountains! Create your own planter to plant plants and then take them home!

Almost every culture around the world has its own percussion instrument and they are so fun to play! Campers will get to explore the world of rhythm through this musical journey which helps to build musical awareness and group cooperation. We will also make our very own instruments to take home. You decide when and where they play them!

MAKE UP ARTIST CAMP

Time to get behind the scenes and learn how the pros create awesome stage and make-up effects. Campers will learn how to apply professional make up, from glamorous to gross, and make cool crafts along the way. We will also dabble in photography to create stunning 8×10 glamor shots. Each camper will go home with their own make-up bag and glam shots.

Willkommen! Global Groove’s native German speaker will introduce beginning and intermediate campers to German language and culture. We’ll delve into the realm of German fairy tales, history, food, “Fasching” (German carnival), and learn fun phrases along the way.

Find out how to make a penny float on water! Come learn about some of the world’s most famous scientist and what they discovered. Join us for mad science!

Campers can expect to create fistfuls of glorious wearable art at the end of the week. Guys are welcome to join too. Mom and Sis just might get a whole new jewelry wardrobe!

Calling all Chess Masters and players in training.  During this week, we will learn fancy moves to stump your future opponets.  Campers will also get a chance to make a chess board of their very own!  Parents better sharpen their skills this summer.  Our junior players are good!

untitled-1GROOVY ROCK BAND (WEEK 1)

During this week, campers will learn how to play the guitar, bass and write and sing their own songs taught by professional musicians. This camp teaches valuable cooperative skills and always proves to be a blast! We will film a music video and design our own band ”look” and CD cover. No prior music training is necessary, but campers should have a strong interest in music. This class will continue into the Fall once a week during our afterschool program. Get in and rock with us! This camp is recommended for campers 8 and above.

This one week immersion camp will allow beginning and Intermediate French speakers to learn all about French speaking cultures around the world while engaging in fun art and culinary activities with other emerging French speakers. This week will be lead by a fun native French speaker and include a trip to a french restaurant in the area. Space is limited in this program. Please enroll early.

Do you have a Diva in your family? At Global Rockstar campers will learn about music from around the world while they form their own band, write a song, and make their own music video. A dvd of this performance will be available and you have a chance to join the global groove band year round! This week will add choreography to last week’s exploration. We do awesome Rockstar birthday parties for kids of all ages too!

Do you love bugs? Do you like watching them creep, crawl, and fly? Then come on… bug me! Become an amateur entomologist and study all kinds of bugs, larvae, and why they are important to us. Go on a couple bug hunt adventures, log, and document your findings like a true entomologist. Are moths and butterflies really the same thing? Come Bug out!!!

Come and learn one of the most useful languages around. In this week long immersion camp campers will have so much fun singing, dancing, cooking, craft making and game playing, they won’t even know they are learning to speak and write in a new language! No prior language experience is required, just an interest in learning and having fun! We will venture out to a Mexican restaurant the end of this week to try out our new language skills. Vamos!

Did you know that the largest living organism in the world lives under the sea? It’s plankton! Dive into the world of tiny crustaceans and explore huge mammals! Design your own sea creatures, like the giant squid, octopus, or blow fish to discover the enormous variety of animals that live in our oceans. Sea monsters are also accepted. Perhaps we’ll even discover an ancient pirate treasure!

Math can be fun! This camp is a perfect icebreaker for the upcoming school year. We will review basic math concepts in a hands on way that makes learning fun! We will be on our feet adding, multiplying, doing treasure hunts and building projects all of which will help us gain a better understanding and mastery of elementary school math concepts. This camp is designed for campers from 7-10. They’ll love it and so will their teachers next year!
